Oracle Enterprise Manager Failed to Start
Start in Oracle 10g, Oracle start to use web base Enterprise Manager (EM).
But if you try to configure the EM for Oracle database 10g (10.2.0.4 and 10.2.0.5) AFTER 31 December 2010, you will fail.
Confirm!!!!
Why?:
If you plan to configure Database Control with either of these Oracle Database releases, Oracle strongly recommends that you apply Patch 8350262 to your Oracle Home installations before you configure Database Control. Configuration of Database Control is typically done when you create or upgrade Oracle Database, or if you run Enterprise Manager Configuration Assistant (EMCA) in standalone mode.
Yes, you need to patch your database with patch 8350262. If not, you will encounter an error during the configuration process.
Nothing to worry, the patch is just a small Opatch, and no downtime is required. It also don’t effect existing Oracle database control configuration.
How to patch?
- Download the patch from My Oracle Support (MOS) or I can help you if you don’t have access to MOS, download patch.
- Unzip the patch and navigate to the patch directory.
- Set the ORACLE_HOME environment.
export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/../db_1In Windows:
set ORACLE_HOME=C:\..\db_1
- Invoke the opatch apply
bash-3.00$ /u01/app/../db_1/OPatch/opatch apply…

- Run
./killDBConsolescript - Resecure EM configuration with the following command:
emctl secure dbconsole -reset - Try to start your EM, and try to access your EM:
emctl start dbconsole - Incase your EM still failed to start, try to reconfigure your EM
